Chapter 13. Susan and Beyond
|
Eldest known child of John and Elizabeth Strother Douglas, Susan was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky 18 June 1808. Most of the rest of her story is covered in Arch D's section.
A census tells us John was born in Virginia about 1775 and that he was either a planter or a plasterer, depending on one's interpretation of the handwriting. Considering the time and location, I will vote for planter. He married in Caroline County, Virginia in 1805, and that is the sum of our knowledge about that gentleman.

Elizabeth's parents were John Strother and Lucetta Weeks, who may or
may not have been married, living in King George County, Virginia. We
have nothing on Ms. Weeks' origins, but there is a ton of information
to be had on the Strother line, which brings us to a point where we can
turn the story over to fairly creditable genealogists who have compiled
much on them. Before referencing them, let me advise a bit of caution:
It is my belief that the line extending back from William Strother "The
Immigrant" is mostly conjecture and hopeful glory-seeking. Now - to see
what has previously been written - I recommend:
