Both Worthington high school girls' lacrosse teams keep this game in the back of their minds all season.

Both teams are strong, have experience and remember what happened last year.

But last year won't matter after the "champion" is crowned Friday night, because a new group of seniors will have eternal; bragging rights and the other will never again be able to say, "We've still got next year."

Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne's girls' lacrosse teams face off Friday in their annual match-up for the coveted Golden Stick. It will crown the "champion" of Worthington.

The Wolves should be hungry after last year's 10-9 loss, when they watched a seven-point lead disappear while being shut out in the second half.

The Cardinals are seeking to finish the season strongly and the upperclassmen aren't keen on losing in the last home game of their careers.

The JV squads from both schools will also compete and the evening will culminate with the varsity teams squaring off in the stadium at 7:30 p.m.

The Wolves are 8-5 after beating Dublin Scioto 11-5 Monday. Thomas Worthington is 12-2-1 after edging Hilliard Davidson 11-10 Monday. The Cardinals play at Columbus Academy, today at 7 p.m.

Both teams need the wins to get good seedings in the postseason tournament draw Sunday, but ultimately they'll be battling for pride.

The Cards also have the added pressure of never having lost the Golden Stick to Worthington Kilbourne.

More than anything, TWHS wants to be able to stop the Wolves' strong offense, led by junior Kelly Windle, while also penetrating the tough defense and powerful goalie Katie Ewing.

The Wolves' defense also will need to be on their toes all night, because the Cards' offense runs deep and has many players capable of scoring. Seniors Katie Kaps, Melissa Jackson and Chelsea Rankin will all want to find the net on senior night, and freshman Amy Stillwell will also want to find some good looks at Ewing.
