The Easter Bunny will be coming to town Saturday.
He’ll be on hand to help out with the annual Easter Candy Hunt at Lane Road Park.
A good tournament is expected this year, according to Ginny Houghton of the Upper Arlington
Parks and Recreation Department. Lat year about 1,000 children participated in the fun.
Youth dressed in Easter Bunny costumes will be available to help the younger children hunt for
more than 10,000 pieces of chocolate and candy.
Parents and the their kids should arrive at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Children will be divided into age groups of 2 years old and under, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-9. Each group
should go to their designated hunt area, shown on the map on page 4B of today’s UA News.
There will also be a hunt held for special needs children on the tennis courts. This is so that
kids in wheelchairs will be able to move around on a smooth surface in stead of the grass.
The festivities will begin when the announcer at the organizational point says go after a short
countdown, Houghton said. All children should bring their own small basket for collecting goodies.
But, should an unlucky child finish up empty-handed, the bunnies and the staff will hand out
candy so that everyone can go home happy.
Children should dress appropriately for all weather conditions and may want to bring boots.
In case of bad weather, a rain date has been set for April 19 at the same time and location.
If there is more bad weather on the rain date, the day before Easter, the hunt will be canceled.
But children shouldn’t be too disappointed; event staff will be in the parking lots to handout
candy even if the April 19 hunt is canceled.
On the day of the hunt parents may call the Parks and Recreation Department's Program Hotline at
583-5345 for more information.
This annual event is sponsored by the Upper Arlington Civic Association and the city of Upper
Arlington Parks and Recreation Department.
Parents should park in the parking lots at Lane Road Park or only on the park side of Woodbridge,
Mountainview, Land and McCoy roads. Parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
